I had a lot of different emotions during our day in Sihanoukville. The infrastructure was still a mess. Abandonded buildings were next door to fancy casinos built for Chinese tourists. The toilets were spotless but the waterways were full of rubbish.
Once we were past the drivers touting for business at our drop off point the people were kind and welcoming. We stopped to talk to a couple of blokes in a streetside stall and they insisted we sit down and have a drink with them. Refused a small tip and instead gave us each the gift of a scarf. I didn't actually take photos there as I felt it would be intruding on a moment of friendship.
After our morning walk exploring the wet markets we found a noodle place for lunch. The auntie who ran the place was astonished at our drink orders "You Aussies" she said "You never want ice". Noodles were still in the sun drying before they were cooked for us.
After lunch we hired a driver to take us to visit the pagoda and he asked if he could come in with us as he'd never been. Of course we were happy for his company.
The colours on the carvings were shining in the sun, but behind the balastrauds the monks just tossed their rubbish down the mountain.
Back at the war memorial for our transfer back to the ship and drinks with ice!
