Portable ports

We were all disappointed when our scheduled port of Phu My was cancelled as Dad had planned an amazing day Ho Chi Minh City. A solid afternoon's work (from Dad who missed his calling as a travel guide) resulted in a new day out in Nha Trang from the port of Cam Ranh

Our first stop was the ancient Cham tower, then the Buddhist shrines at Long Son Pagoda. Final stop before lunch was Dam Markets.

Our driver then took us to a local restaurant where we all enjoyed Vietnamese fresh rolls made with pork or beef, cucumber, green Mango, and pickled carrot. Being mindful of travellers trots we left out the herbs and salad as much as we really wanted to include them!

Post lunch we visited Truong Son craft village where we saw examples of traditional crafts, music, games, and dancing. Harrison did a fantastic job of playing some rock music.

While the crew tried to make the nearby "resort" sound attractive and worth spending a day at - it was not. Not finished, not a nice beach, not even any nice shops of tourist tat! I did have a nice coffee there though. The pool and waterpark they recommended hadn't even started to be built yet! Maybe by the time the navy port beccomes a regular tourist stop it will be more appealing.

Back on the ship some of us stayed up late to boogie by the pool. A great day was had by all!

Our second day in the Cam Ranh Naval Base was a day of rest (seeing as the resort was a write off). Some celebrated Invasion Day/Australia Day while Amanda and Stu celebrated their wedding anniversary. I made sure I didn't suffer from a lack of exercise with several laps of the promenade deck while keeping an eye on the midget submarines on the other side of the bay.

The real reason I did so many laps of the deck - cocktails and desserts.
